Living in New York City is great, but sometimes you may feel like your family misses out on being in nature. So at Pack 777 we promote camping and enjoying Central Park and Riverside Park as much as possible.
-
We have at least two camp-outs a year at Camp Alpine in the Palisades just 30 minutes away
-
In addition we have 4-8 overnight and day events such as skiing, overnight camping at the Cyclone Stadium and Westpoint Military Academy (based on a lottery)
-
In Central Park on a weekly basis, weather permitting, we...
-
Hike
-
Have a picnic
-
Identify birds, bugs and plants
-
Learn and Practice Orienteering
-
Play games: Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer
-
Cleanup and Improve the park
-
-
When it gets cold inside we work on our Pinewood Derby cars and other hands on projects like building wood boats, electric circuits and self propelled cars.

Cub Activity Days: These occur twice a year. During a Cub Activity Day at Camp Alpline, the boys get to participate in fun activities like Archery, Rock Climbing, BB guns and Mining all under safe supervision and instruction. The boys love it! We will often plan a whole camping weekend around a Cub Activity Day where parents camp and sleep with their boys in tents. At the end of each day, we all pitch in to cook a delicious camp side dinner. Siblings and other family members are always welcome.
-
Community Service: For example, "Messages of Peace", where we have the boys safely pick up litter at a local park. You would not believe how much fun your son will have cleaning up! We teach and practice “Leave No Trace” principles, which help them understand how their smallest actions and awareness can have a significant impact upon the world in which they live.
-
Pine Wood Derby: The boys start out with a 7" x 3" block of pinewood, and over the course of several meetings, they draw their custom design, cut out the design shape (adults leaders do this part), sand, paint and add wheels. Finally, they get to race their cars on a huge 38 foot long gravity track against all the other Cubs and of course there are trophies! We make this even more festive by having a pot luck buffet in which the whole family is welcome to attend.
-
Special Events: Halloween, Hannukah, Christmas, and New Year's Day. These are celebrated as part of our meetings.
-
Blue and Gold Ceremony in February. This is our most important event because it celebrates the Anniversary of Scouting. This is our most "formal" celebration where boys are acknowledged for rank advancement in their prospective Dens.
-
Summer Activity Days: mini-golf, row-boating, camping, day trips, bike rides, and much more!
